    Examination period(s)

Each faculty has its own schedule. Examinations are based on course work, attendance and exams during the semester.

If there is a break between the academic course calendar and exams, can arrangements be made so the student may take exams early?

(i.e. semester ends in December and exams are late January).

Most Faculties offer courses in block 2 that have an "early exit" option (= finish before Christmas). This is only possible for students who need to return to their home institution for the second semester in January. In some cases less than 7.5 ECTS are awarded. These are tailor-made solutions and it’s the student’s responsibility to make arrangements with the instructor.

Housing through Short Stay Solutions can only be rented for a full semester period.

    Orientation session(s) for incoming students

University-wide orientation and social introduction: a week before classes start/ in the first week of the semester.

Most faculties also have an orientation session. The activities are free.

Each faculty has its own deadline but the application deadline is based on that.

  • Housing and Student Life

Is housing assistance available? How do students apply, and is it guaranteed?

Yes. Due to a large number of students and shortage of rooms it is usually very hard to find housing in Utrecht. Therefore Utrecht University reserves a limited number of housing options for exchange students with the independent housing corporation (SSH).

Students have to arrange housing themselves, either via SSH or independently. The number of accommodation that Utrecht University reserves with SSH is limited, and is offered on a first come first serve basis.
